First Round | Video

[The subject of today's video is Dio's Zubat which flutters in and out of the view of the camera. He's still not used to actually filming anything, so keeping it on screen is hardly his main concern at the moment.

As for where he is, he's not stupid. He read the evil villain handbook and figured it's not a good idea to show off anything pertaining to that (not that he minds showing off), so once the day's training was done (as if they could teach him anything), he decided the grass just outside town would be the best place to learn how to use this weird thing.]

Tell me, what exactly am I meant to do with such a creature? Where I come from, these things are usually seen as pests, if not worse, but if this handbook is to believed, I'm actually supposed to care for the thing.

[He'll omit sharing with the viewer which handbook he's read.]

I don't doubt that's the case, but still, being newly arrived to this world, I would like some reassurance. After all, if I'm meant to travel the land, collecting badges with such a baffling creature, it would comfort me to know someone else has done the same.

[And perhaps they'll tell him of their Pokemon and their accomplishments as well. After all, he's one of their own. A trainer. Why wouldn't they share with him?]

Oh, and please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Dio Brando. I look forward to meeting your acquaintance.

[...and using these fools to climb higher and higher in this ridiculous Pokemon world.]

Oh, it's most curious! It's certainly fire, but for some reason it doesn't seem to burn even if one brushes up against it.

[She wanders over, resting a hand against Charlemagne's neck; it's way too close to not result in a burn, under normal logic, but evidently this is perfectly fine.]

It's as though he's just a horse. It's really very strange, but so it goes, in a place like this.

Maybe, but it's effective. And I don't think you'd really like to go wrangle a potentially hissing or venomous animal with your bare hands. I wouldn't, at least.

Hmm.

[Well, she can respect wanting to rely on one's own self for help anyway.]

There's catching Pokemon, too, but you've probably read about that in your handbook already. All the different types of Pokemon let you create your own style with battling. There's a lot of weird stuff in this world, and we're not left with much except our base strength when we arrive--no powers or any of that. It can be frustrating, but reaching goals in this world can be done. [She shrugs, pulling up what looks like a moderately sized clasp wallet and opening it to show four lines of badges.] These are the badges from this region and the one close by, it's stated to be our ultimate goal as trainers to have all of them and, admittedly, they're not just for show.

You can find them on the Routes outside of Goldenrod City. The only move they will know is Teleport, so they are not going to be easy to capture.

One would think, but you were asking for information, after all.

It does, rather. But there are things one might do to help adjust! This device that we're speaking through, for example; there's a way of learning things about one's Pokemon with it, if one gives it the proper commands. You might learn more about your bat that way, if you were to use it.

[And if she can recall how to walk him through using it.]

It works on any of them, simply by pointing it at them and pressing the proper button.

[Maka doesn't often show off her status as a trainer because, to her, her status as a Meister is more important than that. But Dio can count on there being two things he shouldn't challenge her to: 1. A Pokemon battle and 2. A fist fight. Option 2 might not be such a disastrous result except that she's kinda violent.]

It's not a big deal, if you have any other questions feel free to ask. For right now you can look at the map on your Gear there to figure out where you want to go next.

[She's still not sure why they don't include handbooks with Gears for people that can't readily catch onto tech. Oh well.]

That is true. But...let's just say Teleport allows this Pokemon to do exactly what it implies.

As I said before, you'll understand once you encounter one for yourself.

[Blake can definitely teach him about movies. He's probably a little young for Apocalypse Now, though.]

You're a lot politer than most kids I run into. Your parents must be real strict for people who'd name their kid after the guy who sang Killing the Dragon.

[Especially back home, when he usually ran into kids when they were getting hauled in for underage drinking or tossing rocks through windows.]

Seems like you've got plenty a comfort on that front, yeah?

[Joker is done up to the nines in his Halloween get up- skeletal makeup, bat themed bowtie and outfit to match, all that. It's a little ghastly since Envy is a talent with this sort of thing, but it matches the atmosphere.]

Joker, ringleader a the Eve's Garden Circus. Pleasure ta meetcha! I bet those wings a his will get real handy whenever ya get the right badge... and when he evolves, a course.

I'm sure someone has tried, but I imagine it's ended poorly.

[Of course, he prefers to stay back in a fight anyway, so having Pokemon works out just fine for him.]

Though you seem more held together than some of the people who arrive here. I've watched a lot of new arrivals just flail around and start yelling.

Joker's fine. Ain't much of a 'Mister'.

[Not in this get up, for sure.]

Storm. Over in Cianwood's gym, which is a bit amusin' considerin' things, but ah well. Maybe that's the point, ha!
