[The subject of today's video is Dio's Zubat which flutters in and out of the view of the camera. He's still not used to actually filming anything, so keeping it on screen is hardly his main concern at the moment.

As for where he is, he's not stupid. He read the evil villain handbook and figured it's not a good idea to show off anything pertaining to that (not that he minds showing off), so once the day's training was done (as if they could teach him anything), he decided the grass just outside town would be the best place to learn how to use this weird thing.]

Tell me, what exactly am I meant to do with such a creature? Where I come from, these things are usually seen as pests, if not worse, but if this handbook is to believed, I'm actually supposed to care for the thing.

[He'll omit sharing with the viewer which handbook he's read.]

I don't doubt that's the case, but still, being newly arrived to this world, I would like some reassurance. After all, if I'm meant to travel the land, collecting badges with such a baffling creature, it would comfort me to know someone else has done the same.

[And perhaps they'll tell him of their Pokemon and their accomplishments as well. After all, he's one of their own. A trainer. Why wouldn't they share with him?]

Oh, and please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Dio Brando. I look forward to meeting your acquaintance.

I haven't had much experience with Zubat myself, but generally they'll be well behaved and follow your orders in battle. I know how strange it is to arrive and be told that you're to use ridiculous monsters to fight, but that's how things are settled here. A lot of the local economy runs on the money generated from caring for and battling these creatures, after all.

[Blake figures somebody else can handle telling the kid the basics. He's zeroing in on the important part.]

[It's stupid is what it is. Something more suited to that fool Jonathan given his attachment to his horrid mutt than someone like him. But Dio doesn't say anything like and just continues his awful camerawork here. The Oscar for Best Cinematography, will not be going to him, Dio, anytime soon.]

[The idea of making animals battle doesn't really bother him so much as the fact that one of his seems positively mediocre and that just will not do at all. Though this Leech Life thing does sound slightly intriguing.]

[The camera's still focused on Zubat, which is good because the scowl on Dio's face probably wouldn't earn him any friends here. But he'll manage to keep his tone even.]

I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about. My father may have not had the best reputation, but I assure you our family has never been associated with anything of that nature.

[...is it possible to die from the aggravation of having to actually say something positive about that wretched person? Because he feels like he's close to finding out. But for all his faults, Dio's pretty sure Dario wasn't into Black Sabbath or whatever sort of devil worship this guy is going on about.]

[Hang on let him figure out how to angle the camera so...okay, there. It should be showing how displeased he looks by this turn of events...albeit from a weird angle. So he's sort of looking down and frowning into it. He'll get it eventually.]

Is it really that bad?

[It can't be, right? He's meant to be the best ~~like no one ever was~~. So he can't be saddled with something useless.]

Don't know if it's good or bad in a fight, but they're everywhere. Every cave you walk into's swarming with the damn things.

As I'm sure you've heard already, caring for Pokemon is exactly what people are expected to do when they arrive here. Whether or not they actually do so is a different story, of course.

[But as long as he's been here, he hasn't seen a person who doesn't own at least one Pokemon, even if they've decided to not train them at all.]

I suggest you work on training that Zubat as soon as possible, regardless. Even if you don't find battling to your tastes, you're not going to have an easy time on the routes if it remains at level five forever.

[...but it's not even close to nighttime.]

What else is there to do?

[Humor him. His handbook was basically like commit all sorts of crimes with Pokemon, and somehow he doesn't think that's what she's talking about.]

[He just looks even more displeased.]

So it's common vermin I've been saddled with?

[He's not happy about this. It could be worse. It could be the only Pokemon he has, but he figured the bat would make for a less assuming introduction than that...mask...thing. He plans to spend quite some time figuring out what the hell is up with that, but it didn't really seem like something he should advertise to a world full of strangers.]

That hardly seems fair.

[But life isn't fair, so he'll find a way to deal with it. Either by making something of it, or ditching it for something that's actually fitting of someone like him. ~~Trubbish maybe~~.]

[Okay, he doesn't need the advice, he was planning on doing that anyway. Probably. And he's irritated about this guy presuming that he can lecture someone like the great Dio Brando, but he'll just sort of bury that irritation for now. Or try to anyway, he might sound a little annoyed.]

I have every intention of at least trying it. I've never been one to shy away from competition.

It's just that I'm not used to having to care for a pet. I've never had one of my own, let alone one capable of fighting other creatures.

Is that so? Well, you will be presented with plenty of competition here, don't worry about that...

As you mentioned, seeing how Pokemon are capable of fighting one another with abilities beyond brute strength, they aren't exactly pets in the sense you are thinking. They are as intelligent as humans are, some even moreso.

[And he says that with no hesitation because, well. He's pretty sure there are Psychic types smarter than some people he's been forced to deal with.]

That also makes training some of them a challenge, but you sound like you aren't concerned about that.

[He sounds skeptical. Actually no, he sounds amused by the very notion. Smarter than humans, sure. People are dumb. But that doesn't mean they're smarter than him. Nothing is smarter than he is.

And not that Nagi can see it, but he's just giving his Zubat this look that could basically be summed up as “you aren't smarter than me, Dio.”]

But it's not a lack of concern, so much as if I'm to accomplish the goals in that book, and have the name Dio Brando be synonymous with greatness, then it's simply a challenge I'll have to meet head on and overcome.

It sounds as though you've largely answered your own question, really.

Hardly. I've yet to meet anyone who can claim they've done anything of note with a similar creature.

You've probably been given the basic rundown already from your book and other people here, and your Gear's Pokedex function should tell you a little about your Zubat. But I can expand on that if you want to hear about it...I can tell you right now, it grows bigger and a lot stronger.

[A pause, she adds:] Maka Albarn is my name, welcome to Johto.

Not yet, but I believe Zubats can grow much bigger and stronger when they evolve. Of course, if you're really unhappy with it, you can use it to catch something else.

[It's not like he uses his starters much anymore. They simply don't have the same kind of versatility.]

Ah, you mean zubat specifically...?

Hm...well, breeding...or just travelling...I spend a lot of time playing video games, myself.

You would be surprised. I think you will understand what I mean the longer you have been here and the more Pokemon you encounter.

[Maybe if he's lucky, the great Dio Brando will be able to say he's met the god of all Pokemon one of these days.]

The first goal is obtaining the badges for both regions, but training Pokemon to their highest potential is even more of an accomplishment.

[And again, some Pokemon are...finicky. And strong Pokemon will pave the way to badges anyway.]

[It's mostly the accent that ends up catching Meridiana's attention toward this post in particular; what keeps her there is the fact that whoever this is, he seems to also have Good English Manners™, or at least the good sense to try for a favorable first impression through a proper and polite introduction.

As to your, um. Your bat, rather, if you treat it kindly it will protect you as you travel! That's mostly what such things are for, here, is protection and companionship.

Well, yes. While it'd be of interest, knowing other people have done the same with different creatures really doesn't tell me anything that I can do with this one.
